In the days of 64-bit processors and LTE support at even very low prices, it might seem strange to some if a manufacturer launches a device that costs more than $170 yet offers no LTE and only 32-bit MT6592 8-core chipset. Well, actually we would call that a little overpriced, but there certainly are exceptions. Is there still a market for such devices? We think so. Not everyone needs LTE, especially due to the fact that it is expensive and thanks to low data volumes not really useful. Also, 64-bit isn't something everyone needs. Especially those who are not into gaming still are catered well by the MT6592 SoC, especially if the software running on it is properly optimized for performance.
Now the Cubot X11 which launched recently is a device that falls exactly into that category. It comes with a MT6592M SoC clocked at 1.4GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of memory, a 5.5-inch 720p panel with high contrast ratio and InCell-technology and thus doesn't sound like anything you'd wanna have at over $170 in 2015. Yet the device is worth another look, and indeed we said wow during the unboxing and after using the handset for a while, which really wasn't what we expected. The handset offers a few highlights that still make it worth every single cent in our opinion. First of all, it features an extremely sturdy metal body with glass on both sides. It's not the thin metal frame we know from many other devices, but a thick one, and a solid metal chassis inside. Cubot also built-in a 2,850mAh battery to ensure a long battery life, offer dual SIM support along support for micro SD cards, a 13 mega pixel camera with a very good sensor along an extremely bright dual LED dual tone flash and even a status LED is present. Combined with the fact this handset is fully waterproof (yep, that's true), the Cubot X11 seems like the best and most beautiful rugged phone ever created. So stay tuned for the full review to hear our final verdict!
